Unless people are using modems, I can't see what the problem of
multipart messages would be. If for anyone, then for the mailing list
administrators since their bandwidth will suffer the most :-). Most
mailinglist software strips off HTML, among other things to make
archiving work better.
..but ok, this is really not too much on topic anymore.
