IIRC, December 17th was the day when most/all of the new stuff got
merged into CVS and the code wasn't limited to 128kbps/q4 anymore. That
was the start of the final bug hunt for RC3 ...

I use the unix release versions that were released right in the
beginning of the year, hence the date.
