I am very curious as to what you mean by this. What is it that is
exactly what we need? Is this the AudioUnits that you refer to below?

To quote the Princess Bride. "I do think that that word means what you
think it means" :-)
But seriously, I have heard this before, but cannot find anything to
substantiate the claim, and have not (yet ;-) written the codec to test
it. Though, if I know that it won't work then I am less inclined to
spend a huge amount of effort on that side of the codec :-)

Well, just to keep you informed ;-)
At the moment I am merely at the information gathering/scoping phase. I
plan to try and start getting all the required components in the next
week or so... I have downloaded the code from qtcomponents.sf.net and am
looking at that.
I will let you know as this develops...
