Really? My experiences with debian have never involved a default 
catalog file, and there have been a lot of problems getting appropriate 
limits set for passivetex so that you can actually do a 60-page 
document.

It's always hard to remember when you're an expert with a complex set 
of tools what it's like to work with an unfamiliar set of complex 
tools. :)
