Clearly you would rather use paranoia, but there are other tools, cdda2wav
uses the (old) paranoia library, and xmms can be told to write the wav
file to disk if all else fails.

I'm NOT suggesting that you (or developers, place) ignore the error, but
there are some obvious alternatives to try, if only to see what works and
doesn't.
