[paranoia] cdparanoia fails with a shload of SCSI errors

I'm new to cdparanoia and I couldn't find this in the mail list archive,
so forgive me if it's been asked a thousand times.

I'm having a problem with cdparanoia. When I try to rip a CD the .wav
file gets created for each song, but each .wav file is the same (44)
size. Also, I keep getting the following errors:

SCSI transport error: timeout waiting to write packet.

csi_read error: Sector=2295 length=6 retry=1
Sense key: 0 ASC: 0 ASCQ: 0
Transport error: Error reading command to device
System error: Success

And so on.

I am using:

TEAC CD-W524E IDE CD-RW set up to run via scsi emulation

Kernel 2.4.18
The SCSI emulation items I have compiled in my kernel are:
SCSI emulation support
IDE/ATAPI CDROM support is turned off
SCSI support
SCSI disk support
SCSI CD-ROM support
SCSI generic support

I have cdparanoia running fine on my laptop, so I'm guessing the problem
is with the SCSI emulation.

I've been banging my head on this for a couple of days now, so any ideas
that I haven't already tried would be accepted with much thanks.
