Both -- sometimes solid, sometimes not. All kinds of patterns
:-). Here are the last few rips I did. I'm using Jack as a front
end (IMHO it's a lot better than Grip), in case the output format
seems strange. It just launches a normal cdparanoia command line
per track, and also it rips them in more or less random order --
the longest tracks go first, in order to mimimize disk space usage
when ripping and encoding in parallell -- so track 01 doesn't go
first, but it's still the only one reporting jitter. The third
column is ripping speed, by the way. Now, if I do the same CDs
again I get different results, but always the same -- random
jitter on the first track and the rest error-free. Never any
serious problems. Love my Plextor :-). For those interested,
Jack is at http://www.home.unix-ag.org/arne/jack/ -- it can be
tricky to install, but I think it's worth it.

Oh, and let me repeat, just in case anyone doesn't feel like
checking the list archives:

I'm using cdparanoia 9.7 on Linux 2.2.14 (with the latest i2c
patch, for my bttv card), Redhat 6.1 distro, an Adaptec 2940 PCI
SCSI card, (external) Plextor CDRW 8/2/20 (firmware 1.02), and the
'puter is an intel PII266 with 64MB RAM.
