This is for the sake of any 6200S users who may be searching for this
tidbit of information to get DAE working.

[later response]

This reply is late, but maybe it's of help for others with a simular
problem: I tried various versions of cdparanoia, linux kernels, even
replaced the SG driver. Nothing helped. Finally I bit the bullet, created
a boot diskette (this is a linux only box) and upgraded the firmware of
the drive. And that did it.

So: people with Ricoh 6200S writer, that came with firmware rev 2.03 may
have to upgrade to firmware rev 2.40 if they encounter DAE problems.

BTW: the symptoms of the system "freezing" for a few seconds were caused
by a SCSI bus reset, something I found out only when it happened to me
when I was not using X and the actual messages ended up on the console...

Keep up the good work :-)

Greetings,
JanJaap
