[paranoia] CDparanoia locks my computer

Hi ,
I just downloaded cdparanoia-III-alpha9.6 and tried to convert some audio tracks in .wav files.The problem is that nearly everytime I try this,cdparanoia stops in the middle of the process and locks my computer:CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE,or CTRL-ALT-DEL do not work anymore,and I have to do a "cold"  hardware reboot.Cdparanoia managed just once to finish ripping a CD track.I tried with better CD's  but the result is the same.I've got a LG 36X CD-ROM drive.Compiled on a stock RedHat 6.0 with kernel 2.3.15.
