*flame* :)

Courious, how rumors like this can come up. Icecast1 doesn't get much
attention any more, just necessary fixes like the security issues
lately. Icecast2 is now in developement, which is much better and secure
by design already. That, and Ogg Vorbis is keeping the developers busy,
I suppose.

I guess someone just noticed icecast.org not being that up-to-date and
assumed that "they must be working elsewhere". Right, just not on
Shoutcast and apparently not on the website either. If you want to know
exactly what's going on, subscribe to cvs at xiph.org. That mailing list is
one big changelog.

If you want to try out what's currently in the making, go to
www.xiph.org/cvs.html, read how to fetch sources from their CVS
repository, get the icecast module, read the file HACKING in icecast/
and follow the instructions. (Same applies to ices2, and you'll also
need libshout from CVS, at least that's how I do it.)

Also, Oddsock has ported and compiled Icecast2 as a win32 binary and
offers it for everyone to test on http://www.oddsock.org/icecast2/ .
Comfy Ogg streaming with Winamp or XMMS as the source is also done with
a tool from Oddsock: http://www.oddsock.org/tools/dsp_oddcast/

This all is still quite a hassle, but definitely worth the efforts.
Icecast2 works perfectly for my puny once-in-a-while streaming and it
has proven to work for big streamers like BBC, too. Icecast1 is obsolete
for me now, especially since Winamp has now native support for playing
Ogg streams. No I'm-lazy-argument works anymore for the victims of my
1-Listener-Only-Stream ... ;)
