Taking Beni's lead (and most of his words), here's what I posted
http://www.help-forums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59 and sent to
soul at avconcept.com:
[Note... Be sure to do the poll I started!]
Ogg Vorbis is an open, completely
patent-free, audio compression format that already works better
(feature-wise and by quality-to-size ratio) than MP3 and will do better yet.
I'm one of the many people that already use it and never want to look back.
So I would be interested in seeing support for Vorbis in the Soul CDR/RW
player via a Firmware upgrade. This would enable people to use their Vorbis
(OGG) files as is without any need to degrade the superior sound that Vorbis
gives. The RC1 decoder that can play all files that will be encoded with
version 1.0 of vorbis has already been released (end the RC1 encoder will
follow soon).
Most Libraries and source code are available under a permissive BSD-like
license. You don't have to pay anyone royalties for supporting Vorbis - on
the contrary, it's encouraged.
