Good point.  (And I was the one who asked if 3 letter extensions were still
needed.)

I forgot that my DVD player can only do 8.3 names for mp3's and ignores the
id3 tags.  (My mp3/cd player does long names, though, when it can't find an
id3 tag.)

It'll be years before any stand-alone player can handle ogg or theora, but
there's no point in creating a potential problem if you don't have to.

Nearly everybody here is agreeing that it needs to be done.  And are saying
that .ogv is okay.  (Over the already existing .ogm)

But since there have been several other similar discussions before, with
similar points made and objections raised, I don't think the Xiph people are
going to be the least bit interested.

The Xiph people seem to be the main ones who actually like the idea of
having only one extension for every media type possible.  And that if the
user or application or OS has problems with it, then that's their fault.
