donate at xiph.org. If you make a small contribution of $60,000 I promise
you I'll hire a full time tech writer for approximately a year. It's
even a tax writeoff.

Either put your money where your complaints are, or spend your
complaining time writing doc patches or user guides. It's not like any
of us (except for Monty) get any kind of regular income from this.

Also, what documentation do you want? It is not our mission to make end
user tools (except perhaps with the exception of icecast, but that is
meant for semi-knowledgable users and does have several bits of documentation).
THe parts of Vorbis that are exposed to developers who do make such
tools is well documented with numerous code samples, and the few
questions these developers do have get answered very promptly on the
vorbis-dev list. I can tell you that I've had zero complaints from
these users.

We make tools where we feel it is essential for adoption, we try to
write some documentation. But don't blame us for our end user tools
being unpolished or not as clearly documented as you prefer... we don't
have the budget for those things, and it was never our intention to have
to do such work anyway. We've developed, implemented, codified, and
evangelized what is one of the best damn lossless audio codecs on this
earth. Most other research institutions don't even make it this far.

On a more positive note, we've tried various things to get more people
to write documentation. I invite you to participate in these efforts.
A good start would be to come to one of the monthly meetings and get
some momentum going.

Regards,
jack.
