How does moving the IRC services to freenode have any affect on this? 
The channels aren't going away, and we're taking the opportunity to
clearly distinguish #vorbis (which should be for development related
chat) and #vorbis-talk (random social conversation).  This latter part
should be a big win for the development community.

Frankly I see the server move as being a minor inconvenience, but that
frees the Xiph.org server and sysadmins from the burdens that come with
IRC networks.
