That is possible.  I did actually consider that to begin with.  (I don't
happen to have any spoken cd's, though.  Hence the mp3s.)  And it was going
to be a quick retest, rather than a full test.

However, without being an expert on both formats, I find it unlikely.  The
odds are probably high enough against that, that it would almost have to be
deliberate effort by the authors to make it incompatable with mp3.

And since a different mp3 encoder was (almost certainly) used to create the
low bps mp3's, differences in its processing methods and filtering would
also effect it.  Similarly to any effects that Speex might encounter.

It's much more likely the low bps are dominant in the quality.
