Actually, the "Encoded by" field could be simply added to files on an
as-needed basis, as the field wouldn't necessarily be needed by everyone.
OTOH, it could also be argued that such a field is used widely enough that
it probably could be made a standard field.  Really, though, it wouldn't
be hard for encoders,  rippers, or artists to add an "Encoder" or "Encoded
by" field to the file as needed.
