Well, that explains it. 256 kbps CBR mp3 has been confirmed to be
indistinguishable from CD source (using Fraunhofer and Thomson's codec, at
least). So if you were coming from 384 kbps VBR mp3s, you were basically at
CD-quality anyway.
And 128 kbps Vorbis does sound *much* better than 128 kbps mp3, at least to my
ears, anyway.
