[vorbis] Why the commotion about file extensions?

I forgot to add, that although it surely isn't the most elegant way to 
identify a file or even the most secure/reliable.  It is very simple, 
and it works on all platforms.  How would you work some special resource 
fork from MacOS to *nixes and Windows?  Mac, Windows, *nix, BeOS, etc, 
all understand extensions.  It is the lowest common denominator.  And it 
is so similar to something people already understand, .mp3.
