5%? Winamp/XMMS have never used more than 2% avg for any vorbis or mp3
stream I've thrown at them so far; this on a K6-III/450 with a plain ol'
SBLive!. Or is 5% the CPU load for the entire system with all the
processes and junk running?

But isn't relating the load on a 1.2 GHz machine rather irrelevant to
the present discussion anyway?

[For the record: XMMS takes 0.1% CPU time for 128k mp3, and 1.5% for q3
vorbis according to top. This seems odd considering an above statement
that vorbis is less CPU but more memory intensive. Is top a bad
indicator for this?]
