As others have said already, mono works fine. I've been doing a bit of
this encoding books thing lately, and my experience is that q2 will
probably do for 44.1khz (q1 introduced a *tiny* bit of echo). At lower
rates where the encoder has not been tuned, don't use lower than q3 due to
the resultant echo.
As for RC4, I'm not a developer but I watch the CVS commits. It would
appear to me that RC4 has a bit to go, as Monty is still hacking away on a
side branch. I wouldn't expect a release for a little while yet, though I
do note that when releases happen, they tend to happen quickly once they
get close. Lower sampling rates will be tuned in RC4, so I'm keeping my
22.05khz wavs around so I can re-encode when RC4 is released.
