Thanks, Wilson, for the advice.  (I'm new to this and post it for the

I've not had much luck rolling my own kernels, but if this 2.4.10-ac12 
kernel really does make a difference, for Linuxppc people, for rolling 
a working Vorbis, I will try my best.  
I am watching the ALSA/libao discussion with interest but without a 
clear sense of what I should do.  (Besides get a newer kernel. =)
