There are a few differences between DivX ;) and ms
MP4, one of the big ones is that it allows .mp3 audio,
but the other one is that it allows MP4 video in an
AVI file. MS only allow MP4 in an ASF file. ASF is
their streaming format which tends to create bigger
files than AVI for some reason. There is some overhead
to make it streamable. It's very useful to have an AVI
file though because you can use all the available
tools to convert it to other formats (Virtual Dub etc)
Virtual Dub used to be able to convert ASF to AVI but
then Microsoft came down hard on them as they own a
patent on ASF or something.
