Well, I did a few benchmark figures using Cool Edit and Stairway to Heaven
as a test track (44k,stereo,16-bit), at 480secs long.

Decoding:
mp3 (128/192/256kbps) - 27,30,32 seconds
ogg (128/192/256kbps) - 33,36,36 seconds

Encoding:
ogg (128/192/256kbps) - 199,211,214 seconds
mp3 (fraunhofer fast 128/192/256kbps) - 42,44,45 seconds
mp3 (fraunhofer medium 128/192/256kbps) - 144,135,133 seconds
mp3 (fraunhofer high 128/192/256kbps) - 751,592,440 seconds

This is probably a good indication of the raw speed of the
encoders/decoders, discounting things like visualisations, etc.

This was done on a Celeron 666 on Windows 2000 and, of course, ogg walked
away with the sound quality prize on this particular track anyway ;)
