As DOS shell (yep, that's the console used in Win9x/ME) I use 4DOS,
which has much more features than COMMAND.COM. However, for any
console-related work I suggest FAR manager, which looks just like the
old DOS Norton Commander, but works in Windows console (and has much
more features than NC).
