        Oye.  No one is suggesting that Einstein should have patented basic
algebra and calculus.  Sheesh.
        The fundamental relationships he postulated (E=mc^2 being the one
laymen know about) and the theories he derived from those postulates and
other known physical law *were* *his* *work*.  Are you arguing that he
could not patent those fundamental and derived relationships?  Isn't
that sort of patenting *exactly* what FHG and Thompson and God knows who
else have been doing for years?
        Sorry if I'm coming on a little defensive here.  We've all got our
heros.  :}
