The idea of Open Source and Free Software is that _you_ too can 
contribute such enhancements for the benefit of all.  And if that hasn't 
been done by other people already is probably because those other people 
are already pretty busy with things that they themselves or even other 
people consider critical too.  And of course there is a limited amount 
of hours in a day.

Why not?  Third parties may become part of the current core development 
which is always extremely appreciated.
