My apologies. Upon re-reading your mails I see that I missed a few 
things. It doesn't matter ofcourse whether a new vector is being 
allocated, but the other things aren't as obviously equivalent as I 
thought them to be (well in fact they're not equivalent at all).

Perhaps I could suggest you simply use MP3 instead of wasting your 
time here? If I were you then I'd see that as the most logical 
course of action really..

I'll go and shut up now.
