You only need to do some LD_PRELOAD tricks to patch open() and
ioctl()s on /dev/dsp. Look for vsound on freshmeat.net, who does
exactly this.

I know there already is a virtual audio driver for windows, just
can't remember its name. Virtual audio cable or something like
that..
