MIDI 1.0 specification requires all compliant devices to accept the
running status format. In SMF (as a "recommended practice" of MIDI
standard), the usage of running-status is valid, though suggested to be
avoided as possible.
I understand and support the idea that it's much much easier for
somebody to expand the hidden status bytes in a running-status stream.
I think, however, it's the SMF creator's job and should be done BEFORE
sending it as an Ogg stream. Maybe Ogg MIDI stream generator can
pre-convert the MIDI stream to remove the running-status ambiguity.
