[tremor] suggestion for minor cleanup

I found the following function in bitwise.c which are not being used.  I
tried using them where possible to see if there was any performance gain and
it was insignificat if even there.  I would suggest that if Tremor is not
going to use them that they be removed form the source, even though most
compilers should remove them form the final binary.
