[Theora] first 2 frames empty?

hi folks!

with the SDL based player, it seems to me that the first 2 or 3 frames 
are empty, filled entirely with red or green.
first i thought this is a hardware overlay issue, but when decoding 
video and outputting via my theora-YUV-to-RGB-converter it is the same.

of course skipping the first 2 frames works for me as it seems, but i 
still wonder why it is that way.

so, anyone got info about this?
