Hi David,
sure it is a good suggestion.
In fact, I chose the values above (though they are mplayer hqdn3d default)
rather consciously. Bigger values create a noticeable difference in the
visual perception (in my eyes), but as above they go practically unnoticed,
while improving the bitrate by about 10%, for that particular movie.
I tested several combinations of theora quality and hqdn3d strength
and that one looks like a nice compromise for dvd.
For VHS rips one probably would prefer stronger hqdn3d,
depending on the quality of the original.
