[theora] Question regarding my theora install

i am a newbie and i am trying to play dvd on my linux box since i had got my 
ati radeon 9600 pro working weeks ago.
The problem was that i am trying to install from a *.tar file.
After i did "./configure" in extracted tar file.
I got a error message which was
"configure: error: newer libogg version (>1.0) required or 
$ac_cv_func_oggpackB_read wasn't avaible !

However, i do have libogg-1.0-4 installed which cames with my redhatlinux9.0 
dist.
I am using kernel 2.4.22 right now.
Do you have any idea regarding my questions?
