Is -lvorbis also on the link line? Hard to say without seeing more.

Make sure you're using libvorbis 1.1.0 or later.

Any reason you're installing alpha2? That was before the bitstream 
freeze and won't produce or play a compatible bitstream. alpha4 is the 
current release.
