I've just given the experimental theora-derf a quick run-through.

The decoder seems to totally work fine (with trunk-encoded
video).  I didn't see any decrease (or increase) in CPU
usage, but I didn't try any particularly large segments.

The encoder sort-of works, but the resulting video has
various bold artifacts (or, perhaps, the derf player just
isn't playing derf-encoded video quite correctly).

However, the derf-encoder produces video streams which only
the derf-decoder can play, which is currently a little worrying
for backward-compatability.
