[Speex-dev] VAD status

Hi,
 
For a new project, I intend to use the speex processor, without the codec.
The client would like to have VAD.
 
So I tested the latest VAD, and as the comment suggests, it's pretty bad.
It does not perform better than an RMS detector on  (signal - noise).
 
I remember people saying the VAD of version 1.1 was good.
What can I expect from it ?
Was it able to detect only voice ? at least don't detect very short noises ?
 
What about the VAD of the coder ?
 
Did someone attempt to port the VAD from version 1.1 into 1.2 ? Do you think it's do-able ?
