Not really. Defining "locking in" is probably as hard as actually
figuring out a test for it.

Not me.

residual echo is what's left after the echo canceller. i.e. you can use
the preprocessor to improve the result from the echo canceller, but if
you're satisfied with the echo canceller alone, no need for the
preprocessor.
