A while back I promised to make a small sample of how to use DirectSound
and Speex. The original idea was to take only the audio parts of my
videoconferencing program, but as it turns out a high quality
voicechat program has a lot of interest in the gaming community.
So I turned it into a chatprogram, which is fully opensourced and
available from http://sourceforge.net/projects/mumble/
While somewhat lacking in administrative features, it works well and has
excellent voice quality.
Note that the code is licensed under BSD, so you can pretty much use it as
you please as long as you give props.
As soon as I get the licensing for ASIO in order, I'll check that in too,
which provides proper sample-sychronous multi-source sampling on Win32,
including sampling "speaker output" while sampling the microphone. The
license is a bit legaleese, I'll probably have to email the company and
ask nicely :)
