[Paranoia] CD drive stuttering problem

Well, strange goings-on here. It's been a few days since I gave my last
results, and since then I've updated my kernel
(gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8-r3), so fair warning. I tried the original
tar.gz you pointed me to, applied the patch and tried it again, and then
tried my system version, all with a period of XMMS DAE playback in
between to make sure my drive was still humming along. I used the same
CD as my previous attempts.
Original sgio version:
Did not give me the errors it gave before, but didn't work, either. Gave
the same results as the patched version below.
Patched sgio version:

At this point, I rebooted into Windows and got a clean rip of the same
track with CDex.
