[paranoia] scsi errors with cdparanoia and ide-scsi

Hello,

I often rip with my writer, as it is the best at reading through
scratches. However, it being a writer, I access it through ide-scsi
emulation since I need that to write. These days I often have trouble
ripping though, problems I think a reboot might fix, but I refuse to
reboot. I often try unloading and reloading modules, but this does not
always work (maybe I don't unload enough?)

It is a kernel problem mostly, not really a cdparanoia problem, so I
guess I'm not on the right list here - where should I take it? Anyway,
chances are other people on this list have similar issues?

cdparanoia reaches this point:

Ripping from sector 75 (track 1 [0:00.00])
          to sector 24296 (track 1 [5:22.71])

outputting to cdda.wav

...

Then it doesn't do much, at some point I usually cancel it - I hear the
music I'm playing loop over the same half a second or so a couple of
times while the following errors appears in the log files (and dmesg):

Sep 15 15:06:39 vervet kernel: scsi : aborting command due to timeout : pid 130, scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 0x1e 00 00 00 00 00

Sep 15 15:06:41 vervet kernel: SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
Sep 15 15:06:42 vervet kernel: hdc: ATAPI reset complete

I have kernel 2.4.19, I don't really recall this kind of problem with
earlier kernels.

Hope someone can shed some light on the problem, or point me at the right
list,

Thanks,
Hugo
