Incidentally, I picked this up from /var/log/messages:

Sep 12 17:02:14 grendel kernel: hdc: packet command error: status=0x51 {
DriveRe
ady SeekComplete Error }
Sep 12 17:02:14 grendel kernel: hdc: packet command error: error=0xb4
Sep 12 17:02:14 grendel kernel: ATAPI device hdc:
Sep 12 17:02:14 grendel kernel: Error: Aborted command -- (Sense key=0x0b)
Sep 12 17:02:14 grendel kernel:   (vendor-specific error) -- (asc=0xbf,
ascq=0x0
0)
Sep 12 17:02:14 grendel kernel: The failed "Read CD" packet command was:
Sep 12 17:02:14 grendel kernel:   "be 04 00 02 f0 49 00 00 08 f8 00 00 "

I've tried listening to the track and it sounds fine but when ripping it, it
generates these error messages.

what's interesting with these problems is that I tried ripping this
particular track on a Guinness machine (RH 7.0 with a 2.2.19-7.0.1 kernel)
where I also have cdparanoia-alpha9.7-5 installed and it works! so it's not
the CD... but, I've successfully ripped tons of CDs on the other machine...
so what could the deal be with this one particular track?? I've tried a
number of times to get it ripped with the same result... help!

I'm trying to rip a CD with cdparanoia-alpha9.7-7 installed on a Seawolf
(RedHat 7.1) system with a 2.4.5 kernel and I'm getting tons of the
following errors:

007: Unknown, unrecoverable error reading data
007: Unknown, unrecoverable error reading data
007: Unknown, unrecoverable error reading data

I only seem to get this on one particular track. all other tracks are ok.
I've looked at the CD and it looks clean... I've run cdparanoia with -v but
get nothing more useful than the above.

uggestions anyone?
