hdparm -d 1 /dev/hd?
It works just fine for my Plextor 121032TA.
You should also set unmaskirq  to 1 (this will help you reduce the cpu 
load): hdparm -d 1 -u 1 /dev/hd?

It doesnot matter that you use SCSI emulation. In order to pass hdparm 
options to your drive, you keep doing it through the ATAPI device 
(/dev/hd?)
