I tried ripping track 0 on an ASUS 50x (rather than the 40X here at work)
and got the same sort of result - a massive flood of errors in the logs,
while cdparanoia sat still with the :-0 face for a while. I think it
started to grab some frames but I'll need to tweek my syslog configuration
to stop the drive filling up first :-)

So it does look likely to be drive related, as <djart at linux.gr> suggested.

This will require a kernel rebuild, so it'll have to wait a few days. I
might give cdrao a go as well.
