Reading the audio data and playing it through the sound card ?
In linux try using audiofs ( http://www.senko.net/audiofs/ ) or
cdfs ( http://www.elis.rug.ac.be/~ronsse/cdfs/ ).
Then all the CD tracks are accessible as WAVE files and you can play
them with every WAV player on earth.
