I doubt that it's a bug.  Cdparanoia is probably telling the truth.

You can also try the instructions for using SCSI emulation mode (on the 
Troubleshooting page), which will allow cdparanoia to attempt a few extra 
command sets to find a way to extract audio on your drive.
