[paranoia] "Can't load library" error

After the install as root, run 'ldconfig'.  By convention, Makefiles don't run 
this for you.

Install -p is a GNUism that Debian folks are fond of.  It's not necessary and 
I got the OK from the Debian maintainer to just nuke it, which I will do. (-p 
is 'preserve timestamps').
