[paranoia] Newbie question

All you should have to do is 666 your cdrom - since you say it is set that
way, it's a little strange that it's not working.  Are you sure you've got
the right device?

One other thing, 666 mode is only one option.  Another option is to set the 
device to 660 and chgrp it into the audio group, and then add yourself to
the audio group.  This is a tiny bit more secure than 666...  I don't
generally worry too much about security on read only devices anyways ;-)
