thanks Dan - i'm trying it out.
fwiw, here's the command i'm using - i'm thinking that this is more what you
want too.  --include doesn't exclude anything by default, so your use of it is
a no-op, i believe.

rsync --delete-excluded -e ssh -vrP --include '*.ogg' --include '*/' \
  --exclude '*' pond.dannf.org:/home/dannf/ogg/ /mnt/neuros/music/
