yp_cachegen : generates an xml dump of the  YP directory
yp_clean : we run this periodically (every 5 minutes) to clean up any 
orphaned records in the directory.
yp_random  : randomizes rankings within the directory

I believe that isn't used any longer...I think it was originally used to 
store the username/password used to connect to the mysql DB...
