[icecast] Help Needed

Hi All,
I need some help getting my setup working properly. I'm using Debian
(Woody) with icecast, shout and Xmms.
The icecast server starts OK, and when I use shout to send a playlist to
it, this seems ok too. But in Xmms, when I try to connect, I get a
"Connected: Waiting for response" message and nothing more. The icecast
messages seem to indicate that a connection keeps getting 'kicked' (I am
testing on a local server), with a 'bad password' message - this happens
maybe 300 times in 5 minutes. Do clients need a password to connect ?
Also, is there a problem if I send a mixture of mp3 + ogg files or
should they be one or the other? (and do I need to specify this?)
I would appreciate any help anyone can offer.
Thanks,
